Never before has environmental protection been such an urgent task as today, as Mr Evan Greenberg, ACE Limited Chairman & CEO, said: “I don’t think there is any greater issue confronting mankind than global warming, and we have to come to terms with how human activity may be accelerating changes in the environment. But ACE has 10,000 people around the globe. If every one of us commits to reducing emissions and lessening our company’s impact on the environment, we can accomplish amazing things”. |
Every ACE office around the world is forming an environmental committee, which will involve employees in environmental activities that impact ACE’s internal operations. In addition to energy-reduction efforts, there are many other positive environmental initiatives—such as collecting recyclables and reducing paper use through more electronic transmission of documents. Supporting this initiative to help raise awareness regarding the protection of the local environment, ACE Life has officially established the local ACE Green Committee in Vietnam.
The committee includes representatives of the company head office, branches and sales offices nationwide. Its tasks are to mobilize company employees to proactively join environmental protection activities at work, at home and in public places.

 Ideas that Help us Reduce Energy Use
• Ensuring office lights and equipment are turned off at night
• Switching desktop or task lighting to more efficient fluorescent bulbs such as CFLs
• Unplugging or turning off all ‘instant on’ or ‘always ready’ devices (cell phone, chargers, fans, coffeemakers, radios, printers, etc.) when not in use
• Reducing business travel through the use of phone or video conferencing
• Opening and closing window blinds or shades to take advantage of heat gain from the sun during the winter, and to avoid it during the summer
Other Ideas that Help the Enviroment
• Increasing compliance with the office-wide recycling program for glass, plastic, paper and metal
• Replacing Styrofoam or cardboard cups and disposable plastic water bottles with reusable coffee mugs and water glasses
• Implementing more online/web-based delivery of documents in order to cut paper use
• Using printer/fax paper with recycled content
• Using double-sided copies to reduce paper
• Recycling or donating used computer equipment and cell phones
• Recycling printer/fax toner cartridges
• Replacing bottled water with water coolers

ACE is a partner in the United States Environmental Protection Agency-sponsored Climate Leaders program, an industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop long-term comprehensive climate-change strategies. Partners set a corporate-wide greenhouse gas reduction goal and record their emissions to measure progress. By reporting inventory data to the Environmental Protection Agency, partners create a lasting record of their accomplishments, identify themselves as corporate environmental leaders and are better able to strategically position themselves as climate-change policy continues to unfold. |
